How to Find Your Car Radio Serial Number

Start with the radio that is actually fitted

A radio code request needs the right unit details. The vehicle model, the radio part number and the radio serial number are different identifiers. A Golf or A4 badge does not tell us which radio is installed, particularly when a previous owner has replaced it.

Before ordering, write down the exact message on the screen and the radio name if you can identify it. Take a clear photo of the front panel. This gives support a starting point if you are unsure which service to choose.

Where to look for the serial number

1. Check the supplied radio paperwork. If there is a radio card or installation record, check that it belongs to the fitted unit. Paperwork for a previous radio can give the wrong reference.
2. Use the correct owner's manual. Look for the radio or infotainment identification section. A settings screen is useful only if the manual identifies the displayed value as the radio serial number.
3. Read the unit label if necessary. Photograph the entire label, including fields marked serial number or S/N and the part number. If accessing it requires removing trim or the radio, use a competent installer and the correct vehicle procedure.
4. Check the transcription. Keep leading zeros and every letter. Compare ambiguous characters with the photo instead of guessing whether a character is O or 0.

Do not use a button combination from a different radio model. There is no single universal sequence for displaying a serial number or entering a code across these brands.

Radio serial number, part number or VIN?

• Radio serial number: identifies the individual radio unit. Supply the complete value requested by the order form.
• Part number: helps identify the unit family or version; it is not automatically a substitute for the serial number.
• VIN: identifies the vehicle. A manufacturer or workshop may use it for its own checks. Do not paste it into a field asking for the radio serial number.

Prepare a useful support request

Include the selected brand, radio model if known, complete serial number, a readable label photo and the displayed message. Mention whether the radio was replaced or the problem appeared after battery work. Send these details through the order or support channel rather than posting them publicly.

Common questions

I only have my car's registration number. Is that enough?

It does not identify the fitted radio for our serial-number request. Ask support what information is required for your unit before paying.

The label has several numbers. Which one should I enter?

Use the explicitly labelled serial-number field. If that is unclear, send the full label photo to support. Avoid selecting a number just because its length looks right.
